Curtis Oil, Tire and Propane was founded in 1960 by Vern Tharaldson and Fred Curtis who started with one fuel truck and a service station. By going door to door and asking people for their fuel oil business, the partners were soon on a first-name basis with their customers. Vern left the business in 1969. Fred stayed on, expanding Curtis Oil, Tire and Propane into the thriving business it is today. Heating oil provided a strong foundation for the company. Fred later added an automotive center and car wash, and several convenience stores.
